Design Guidelines for CNC Bending

Minimum Flange Length:

Flange length must be at least 3x the material thickness, with a minimum of 6 mm. Shorter flanges cannot be gripped by the tooling reliably.

Inside Bend Radius:

Specify the inside radius on your drawing. Default is equal to material thickness unless otherwise stated. Tighter radii cause cracking in thicker materials.

Hole-to-Bend Clearance:

Keep holes at least 2x material thickness away from the bend line. Holes too close to a bend will distort during forming.

Grain Direction:

For Stainless Steel, bending perpendicular to the rolling direction improves formability and reduces cracking risk. Our team accounts for this during nesting.

Symmetry & Complexity:

Symmetric parts are faster to set up and reduce tooling change time. If your part has complex asymmetric bends, contact us before ordering for a DFM review.
